So I was at the keg the other day with some friends and they had a pistachio sour gin cocktail on their menu. I decided to try it and boy am I am happy I did. It was great. I wasn’t sure how pistachio syrup would be in a drink but it was a very easy gin cocktail to sip. It actually went down too fast and before I knew it I was 5 drinks in. It wasn’t strong at all but still tasted the gin enough to call it a gin cocktail rather than vodka where all you taste is the mix. With that being said I decided to try my own today being its gin wednesday.
The recipe is simple.
- 1.5 ounces of your favourite fin ( I used bombay today for this )
- 3/4 ounce pistachio syrup
- 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 ounce triple sec or Cointreau
- egg white if desired
- crushed pistachio for garnish
Put all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake well. Pour into favourite martini or similar style glass.
For the syrup:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- handful of pistachios crushed
Boil all three items for a few minutes until sugar is dissolved.
Strain into glass and put into fridge to cool down.
Tweak as needed and enjoy.
